India has six ritus (seasons). Each season is generally two maas (months) long:
- Vasant ritu – Spring – comprising of Chaitra & Vaishakh
- Grishma Ritu – Summer – comprising Jyaishṭha & Ashad
- Varsha Ritu – Monsoon – comprising of Shravan & Bhadrapad
- Sharad Ritu – Autumn – comprising of Ashvin & Kartik
- Hemant Ritu – Pre winter – comprising of Agrahayan & Paush
- Shishir/ Shita Ritu – Winter – comprising of Magh & Phalgun
