Festivals being celebrated based on the Samvat, often-times, on account of the Adhik maas may end up moving up / down across the Gregorian calendar but always line up with the ritus (seasons) & maas (months).
Generally, the main festivals we celebrate & the Ritus they are in, are as under:
- In Vasant Ritu, we celebrate Holi, Gudi Padwa (and the same festival by many names across India) and Ram Navami.
- In Grishma Ruti, we celebrate GuruPurnima
- In Varsha Ritu, we celebrate Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Anant Chaturdashi and Rakshabandhan.
- In Sharad Ritu, we celebrate Navratri and Sharad Purnima.
- In Hemant Ritu, we celebrate Diwali, Bhai Dooj and the Hindu Financial New Year.
- In Shishir Ritu, we celebrate Pongal, Makar Sankranti, Uttrayan, Lohri and Shivratri.
